"Shyness has a strange element of narcissism, a belief that how we look, how we perform, is truly important to other people."

What’s your rush? - Part II

Filed April 5th, 2007 in General

This is SO hilarious! (at least *I* think it is…)

I posted “What’s your rush?” this morning, OK? So forth I go, in my mighty blue Dodge V10 truck, out to meet and greet the world.

Along about noon, I come to a long line of traffic at a light. On the right-hand side is a wide shoulder, ending at a convenience store parking lot–which was at the corner that I wanted to turn right on but couldn’t because of the long line of cars.

So I pull off onto the dirt, motor along to the store, cut through the parking lot, turn right out onto the other street. Cruising along to the coffee shop (the convenience store has coffee that makes dirty water taste good). In the rearview mirrors, I see…bubble-gum machine. Police, coming fast. So I pull over to let him by, like a good citizen. How does he pay me back for that? Yup. Pulls right in behind me.

Oh fun.

Turn off the truck, hands on the steering wheel.

“Canyon County Sheriff’s Department. Do you know why I stopped you, sir?” he asks.

“Nope–not a clue.” I knew I wasn’t speeding.

“You drove on a shoulder that really isn’t a shoulder, and you evaded a traffic signal by cutting through a private parking lot. Both those are violations of the Nampa city code. You drove like you were in a big hurry. What’s your rush?

I swear on a stack of bibles that’s what he said. “What’s your rush?”

I actually broke out laughing. I told him I was just headed for a cup of coffee and that I really wasn’t in a hurry at all. Then I mentioned that I’d written about that very thing just this morning. He was really nice and didn’t give me a ticket, even though I haven’t yet replaced my recently-stolen driver’s license.

OK, Universe. Lesson learned. Slow down. What’s the rush?

Sounds like you’re getting in the groove, Steve. You’re putting out the thought, then quickly facing it - and being aware of the connection. Good deal.
